About Ginette Callaway
Born in France, lived in France and Germany and now in the United States. My main work is original oil and watercolors.
I have studied the impressionists and post-impressionist. My own way of expressing leaning more toward Post impressionism, because it opened the door to a more expressive way of painting and greater freedom. Besides admiring and studying works by Nicolai Fechin, Manet, Monet, Van Gogh Gauguin, Degas, I also love the works of artist like Chagall and Toulouse-Lautrec. I love to include black paint, mixed from various hues and of course impressionism did not allow the use black. So at the end of the day my work has it's own energy influenced by what I have seen and read of these great artist. Two decades of full time painting means naturally, I will explore and experiment, but I always stay true to traditional motives and methods.
My focus has always been to develop my own style. I study color theory and painting techniques but I mostly learned and still learn, by doing.
I enjoy the process of painting. Basically I paint what I love. As time goes on I am favoring my watercolor and ink style and am painting more of those. Additionally sometimes it's fun to create derivatives, by using the digital technologies, changing paintings from their original state to a new visual experience. Whatever I create I always start with my own original paintings.
